Our Teachers

Santa Clara Christian School teachers are trusted guardians and mentors who provide solid academic and spiritual guidance for students to help develop their young minds.

Transitional Kindergarten
Mrs. Gallegos

Mrs. Gallegos grew up in Australia where she completed her BEd. in Elementary Education at James Cook University in 2010. In 2018 she and her family moved to California where she completed her ECE certificate at California College for Early Childhood Education. She has been an educator in both elementary and preschool since 2010, and a part of the Santa Clara Christian School community since 2018. Mrs G. loves spending time with friends, gardening, camping and going on road trips with her husband and five children.

Kindergarten
Mrs. Barboza

Mrs. Barboza began teaching at Santa Clara Christian School in August of 2018. She has been teaching elementary students for over ten years. She attended Bethany College for both her undergraduate degree and Teaching Credential Program. Mrs. Barboza loves teaching and spending time with her husband and son (especially at Disneyland!). She loves cooking for her family, being with friends at home and church, and playing with her dog (also a long-time member of her family).

First Grade
Ms. Nunes

Ms.Nunes has been part of the Santa Clara Christian School community since 2019, beginning in preschool before helping create summer camp curriculum and serving as a second and third grade assistant teacher for a year. She is now the first grade teacher. Ms. Nunes earned Associate of Arts degrees in Creative Writing and Child and Adolescent Development from West Valley College and received her Bachelor’s degree in Child and Adolescent Development from San José State University. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys baking and spending time with her family and her dog, Cabo.

Second Grade
Mrs. Nice

Mrs. Nice is the co-founder of Santa Clara Christian School and has been teaching for more than 25 years. She has her BA in Liberal Arts from Pepperdine University, a CA Multiple Subject Credential from CSUN, and a Master of Science in Learning Design and Technology from the Graduate School of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University. When she is not teaching, she is reading, gardening, or spending time with her family . She is married to Mr. Nice and has 4 children and 3 grandsons.

Third Grade
Mrs. Hwang

Mrs. Hwang has spent more than 20 years teaching children in the United States and South Korea, working as an education researcher, elementary classroom teacher, piano instructor, choir director, and early childhood music educator. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Piano from South Korea, a Master's in Music Education from Boston University, and ACSI teacher certification, and she brings experience teaching students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Passionate about helping every child recognize their God-given value, she focuses on creating meaningful, Christ-centered learning experiences that honor each student's unique background and needs, integrating music, movement, creativity, and biblical truth into everyday instruction. Outside the classroom, she enjoys playing piano, leading worship, spending time with family, and exploring new places, and she values partnering with families to help students grow in wisdom, character, and faith.

Fourth Grade
Ms. Flood

Ms. Flood has been working with elementary students for over seven years. While completing her first year of work at SCCS, she simultaneously earned her degree in secondary education from Golden State Baptist College. Having attended Christian schools from a young age, she is passionate about supporting and furthering quality Christian education. When she is not teaching, Ms. Flood enjoys working at her church, spending time with family, and traveling.

Fifth Grade
Mrs. Welty

Mrs. Welty loves teaching children and especially enjoys seeing their “light bulb” moments! She has been an elementary school teacher for more than 25 years and has a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Hyles-Anderson College. In 2019, she also earned her National Certificate for STEM Teaching through the NISE. During the summer, she spends her time in West Africa training teachers at a school in Liberia. Outside of school, she enjoys music and spending time with family and friends. Her family consists of her husband, Nathan; her three adult children, Kendra, Ariana, and Brandon; and their two cats Oreo and Cookie.
